May 17, 1958: Little Richard hits #7 on the R&B chart and #10 on the pop chart with Good Golly, Miss Molly. The 12-bar blues tune, written by John Marascalco and producer Robert “Bumps” Blackwell, will become one of the most-covered songs in rock history. The opening piano riff is lifted directly from Ike Turner‘s intro to the 1951 hit Rocket 88. A 1959 Spanish-language cover by Los Teen Tops titled La Plaga  is a huge hit in Latin America.
