Farm Aid III

Steve Kline Ages of Rock

September 19

1987: That gaudy 1920s-era concrete monument to college football, Memorial Stadium in Lincoln, Nebraska, hosts the Farm Aid III Concert, featuring John Mellencamp, Willie Nelson, Neil Young, Joe Walsh and many many others. It is the largest concert ever in Nebraska with about 70,000 attending. Most Nebraskans think the farm crisis ended in the 1980s. But that is not the position of Farm Aid. Nelson and his supporters believe that high interest rates, overproduction, export market problems, low prices for farm commodities, the high cost of equipment and the ever expanding size of farms are problems that farmers face regardless of the time period.
