Rock the Day January 18
1941: Davis Eli “David” Ruffin is born in Whynot, Mississippi, a tiny unincorporated community near Meridian. He is one of the lead singers with The Temptions during that group’s “Classic Five” period from 1964 to 1968. His are the raspy, anguished vocals on My Girl and Ain’t Too Proud to Beg, among others. His life is tragically cut short in 1991 when he dies of a drug overdose. As his friend Martha Reeves observes, no one can sing like David Ruffin. Perhaps no song illustrates that better than I Wish It Would Rain.
