Steve Kline Ages of Rock
1944: Born this day in Beaumont, Texas: Musician, guitar wizard, songwriter, singer and consummate blues man Johnny Winter. With his younger brother Edgar on keyboards, the Winter boys begin rocking our souls when they’re in their teens. By the time he’s 15, Johnny’s group Johnny and the Jammers has released a single, School Day Blues, on a Houston label. Invited by Mike Bloomfield to perform at Fillmore East in NYC in 1968, Winter is discovered by Columbia Records. We lose him far too soon in 2014, but we will always hear him. Winter blues forever.
